An update to a globally popular marketplace for website themes and templates

01 — Overview

During late 2017 a start was made to update Themeforest, an incredibly popular marketplace to buy and sell custom templates and themes for popular CMS products like WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. Launched in 2008 Themeforest quickly became the most popular marketplace amongst the Envato range of products, the marketplace itself was in need of a long-overdue redesign to meet the needs of the modern theme purchaser.

02 — Process

Collaborating with the Envato Market design and product teams I was tasked with revamping the existing legacy user interface, enhancing user experience while improving and maintaining current conversion rates. The legacy version of Themeforest didn't cater to an ever-increasing mobile audience, the item cards were too small, theme thumbnail imagery was tiny and crucial information and actions were often hidden from potential buyers.

03 — Outcomes

The improved version of Themeforest would see an increase in conversion and the product design team implemented many improvements such as improved sorting and filtering, added grid and list views on search pages, responsive design updates amongst many other user interface tweaks, and ultimately helped buyers to discover and purchase themes and templates.
